DESIGNER: Jason Wu for TSE
INSPIRATION: Picasso's mixed media sculptures, abstract expressionist painter Barnett Newman
TOP LOOKS: Long taupe double lapel blazer worn over a white collared shirt and black spiderweb knit sweater, paired with a graphic black and white skirt; yellow button-up collarless blouse tucked into wide-leg linen pants; knit light gray skinny suit worn with a collarless sheer white blouse.
ACCESSORIES: Gleaming silver Robert Lee Morris cuffs and armor plate necklaces; strappy heels in neutral colors; thick loose knit scarves.
WHAT WE THOUGHT: In his second season for luxury knitwear house TSE, industry (and Michelle Obama) favorite Jason Wu showed a stellar 12-piece capsule collection.
Inspired by collages and the mixing of textures, Wu presented flowing collarless blouses tucked into rigid linen wide-leg trousers, as well as half-leather, half-knit blazers, while abstract expressionist painter Barnett Newman inspired Wu's digital prints splashed across dresses, shirts and skirts to resemble hand painted fabric.
He also continued some of the sure-to-be-trendy themes in his namesake collection, putting pleated high-waisted shorts, buttoned-t0-the-top blouses, and extra long blazers into the mix at TSE.
An infinitely wearable collection for a variety of ages, we especially loved the neutral palette filled with interesting taupes, creams and grays and the simplicity of the styling and silhouettes, such as an oversized chunky chiffon knit paired with little wool shorts. Hopefully Spring 2011 will be chilly enough to wear them.Jason Wu for TSE Spring 2011 - Runway Review originally appeared on StyleList on Wed, 15 Sep 2010 21:56:00 EST.
